Design Collections & Designs

How collections, designs and their modules (size, shape, color, fixing, text and image zones) organize a Build from Presets catalogue.

Updated 20 October 2026 3 min read

In a Build from Presets configuration, customers do not start from a blank sign: they choose a design you prepared, then personalize it. Two levels organize that catalogue.

Design collection

A tab in the configurator that groups designs by use: “House & Address”, “Office & Door”, “Directional”.

Design

One selectable model inside a collection — “Room Number”, “Door Tag” — with its own sizes, shape, colors, fixings and editable zones.

Libraries

The configuration’s Sizes, Shapes, Colors, Borders, Fixing Methods and Fonts. Designs pick from them.

Older screenshots

Earlier versions of the app called collections “Components” and designs “Options”. The concepts are the same.

Where to find them

Open a Build from Presets configuration: Core Setup › Designs lists the collections with their number of designs and the default collection. Drag the rows to change the order of the tabs.

New to presets? Follow Create a Preset-Based Configuration first: the starter template gives you three collections and nine designs to learn from.

Under the list of collections, these settings apply to the whole Designs step. Click Save settings after a change.

Anatomy of a design

Open a design to see its modules. Each one answers a question about what the customer may change:

46 s — collections, Design Settings, the modules of a design and Configure design.
  1. Design details

Name and description shown in the Designs tab, preview image (required before the design can be saved), optional additional price.

  2. Size

Which sizes of the library this design offers, and the default size.

  3. Shape

The silhouette: a shape of the configuration, a managed shape, or a custom SVG for this design only.

  4. Color

The background / text color combinations, plus an optional color picker (Unlimited colors).

  5. Fixing

Holes, standoffs, adhesive… or a custom fixing layer drawn to match the silhouette.

  6. Text

Text zones with label, default value, required flag and character limits.

  7. Image

Upload zones for logos and photos, with allowed formats, size limits and fit mode.

  8. Lighting and Border

Optional lighting colors and borders for this design.

Configure design opens the mini configurator, where you place the text and image zones on the sign exactly as customers will see them.

Good practices

  • Group designs by what the customer is looking for (use, room, industry), not by internal production criteria.
  • Give every design a preview image: it is what customers compare in the Designs tab.
  • Keep the number of designs per collection readable — six to nine is plenty.
  • Set a default design and a default collection so the configurator never opens empty.
  • Correct shared items (a size, a color) in the library, not design by design.

Test your catalogue

  • Switch between designs: texts, sizes and price update without leftovers from the previous design.
  • Each design offers at least one size and one color.
  • Upload a logo in every image zone you created.
  • Check the order: the cart line names the design and lists the customer’s texts.
